What is a SoundCloud download gate?
A download gate (sometimes called a “follow gate” or “repost gate”) is a small landing page for a free download. Before the file unlocks, the fan completes one or more actions on SoundCloud — follow your profile, like the track, or repost it. Free downloads are a staple for DJs, bootlegs, remixes and edits; a gate makes sure they pay off.
Why use one?
- Followers from downloads: every downloader becomes a follower who sees your next release.
- Reposts spread the track: a repost gate puts your song on the fan’s own profile and in their followers’ feeds.
- Likes boost social proof: more likes make a track more likely to be played by new listeners.
